Our Green Policy

We are committed to providing good quality service whilst minimising the environmental impact of our activities.  This is our green policy - past, present and future.

Past

*  We have replaced all bedroom and bathroom light fittings to be more energy efficient.
*  We have replaced our old inefficient boiler and central heating system with modern,
up-to-date guest controlled electric heaters so we only heat rooms which require
    heating.
*  All windows have been double glazed and outside walls have been cavity wall insulated.
*  We have planted 300 natural hedging shrubs around our land to help us neutralise our
    carbon footprint.

Present

*  We recycle as much household and guest waste as possible including plastic bottles, cans,
    paper, glass, textiles and cardboard.
*  All lighting where possible, is provided with energy saving light bulbs.
*  We have two large water butts for outside water use.
*  Waste food (where unavoidable) is either composted or recycled via our wormery.
*  Our toilets have short flush options to help conserve water.
*  We provide toiletries in large size and/or refillable units.
*  We take breakfast orders on arrival and serve at one sitting to minimise food and energy
    wastage.
*  Heating in communal areas is provided on timers and movement sensors to prevent wasting
    energy and heating empty rooms.
*  We use rechargeable batteries where possible.
*  We use email wherever possible to save paper.
*  We have left a large part of our land in its wild state to encourage birds, animals
    and insects.
*  We use the car only when necessary.
*  We actively support the work of the Woodland Trust, RSPB and the National Trust.

Future

*  As it becomes necessary and where possible, new white goods and appliances will be
purchased with "A" ratings for energy efficiency.
*  We continue to strive to do more for the environment, both locally and on a greater scale.

What you can do to help whilst staying with us

*  Turn off unwanted lights.
*  Heat your room comfortably but be aware of your energy comsumption - turn the room
heater down once your preferred temperature is reached.
*  Separate your waste to help us recycle.
*  Don't leave taps running unnecessarily.
